I have visited since the hotel opened, including several earlier self-funded stays. I also reordered the KARMAKAMET products I discovered here internationally. After another two nights, the room, pool and restaurants still support the same 9.3 verdict.
Officially named The Salil Hotel Riverside – Bangkok, this 235-room riverside property comes from an independent Thai brand. It offers 12 room categories, began its soft opening in the second half of 2022 and formally opened in January 2023. It was named the World's Leading Riverfront Hotel at the World Travel Awards in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The verdict after the stay
Three nights here would not feel like too much.
The 40-square-metre room works for a longer stay, while the pool supports both photographs and proper laps. NAVA delivered a consistent dinner, and breakfast favours a considered selection over an inflated buffet. The order card also kept eggs and waffles out of buffet queues. KARMAKAMET, KanVela, the games area and classes add substance beyond the room.
I have taken the shuttle boat more than ten times at my own expense and used both Taproom and KARMAKAMET across earlier visits. The experience has remained consistent rather than relying on a single strong stay.
The missing 0.7 points reflect the distance from the BTS, a brief lift wait at busy times and the slightly slow shower drain.

The room was quiet on both nights, and the bed and cotton-feel sheets were comfortable. It is a reassuringly easy place to rest.
Bathroom & amenities

The shower pressure was strong, hot water steady, and both the TOTO washlet and substantial towels were welcome. Only the slightly slow drain cost points.
Room practicality

A kitchen, full-size refrigerator, washer-dryer, two televisions and a safe fit within 40 square metres without crowding the room. Fast Wi-Fi also makes it genuinely comfortable for work or a longer stay.
Quiet & privacy

The angled entrance keeps the bed out of sight, while the translucent bathroom wall preserves openness without sacrificing visual privacy. I heard housekeeping outside once.
Pool & wellness

The water changes character from day to night, and this is a pool for actual laps rather than photographs alone. The score covers the pool I used; HARNN Heritage Spa and Rabbit Moon remain for a future stay.

Even at 10:30, the buffet was well stocked and eggs and waffles arrived freshly made at the table. Service until 11:00 means late sleepers need not miss breakfast.

Asiatique is walkable and ICONSIAM is convenient by shuttle boat. A station-side hotel is still the better choice for travellers using the BTS across Bangkok every day.

Why three nights make sense
- Couples are the strongest match: the pool after dark, NAVA Sala and the shuttle boat create one romantic setting after another.
- Families can reduce unnecessary journeys by choosing a Family Room and using the different pool zones and on-site restaurants.
- Solo travellers can combine the pool, restaurants, KARMAKAMET, KanVela and the games area without leaving the property.
- My order of recommendation is couples, families, then solo travellers.
When another hotel fits better
- If your plan is to use the BTS every day for Sukhumvit, Siam and Chatuchak, a station-side hotel is the more efficient base.
- If the hotel is only somewhere to sleep, much of its value disappears because the pool, restaurants, shops and classes go unused.
- Families with specific needs, and travellers requiring an accessible room or pet arrangements, should confirm the exact conditions with the hotel before booking.

Capacity is limited to 20 guests on a first-come basis, so reach The Pier five to ten minutes before departure. I only needed to provide my room number; no separate reservation was required. Recheck the posted timetable in poor weather.

Identity / architecture
A genuine special edition, not another formulaic hotel.
At first glance it resembles a small European-style boutique hotel. Inside, the scale changes: 235 rooms across 12 categories, white sculptural buildings, a turquoise pool and vertical gardens. At dusk, small lights in the trees strengthen the resort atmosphere.
The art concept is Journey of Dreams; the landscape is Journey of Water. The antlered, rabbit-headed creature reappears in wallpaper, toys, corridors, keycards and gardens. A motif that could have felt childish is controlled enough to become part of the hotel's identity.
The stronger achievement is consistency. Water, light, fragrance, colour and circulation follow one visual language, giving the property a distinct character without relying on a famous badge or expensive materials alone.

Arrival / check-in
Check-in begins with KARMAKAMET's JOY fragrance.
Staff took my luggage as I left the car, and check-in happened while seated inside KARMAKAMET rather than at a lobby desk. Other buildings also have check-in areas, with arrivals directed to the nearest available space.
Cool air carries KARMAKAMET's JOY fragrance into the room without becoming overwhelming. Staff served a welcome drink, introduced the hotel app and facilities, then escorted me to the room. The arrival felt calm and efficient.

Room / practicality
Forty square metres arranged for a longer stay.
The bed is not visible when the door opens. The kitchen and bathroom wall angle the sightline first, then the bed and sofa share an open plan. The 40-square-metre floor plan feels larger because it is easy to use, not because of a styling trick.
A full-size refrigerator, microwave, sink, washer-dryer and two televisions make the room practical for a longer stay. The river is pleasant by day and more atmospheric after dark, when the boats illuminate.

Sleep / bathroom
A freestanding bath, TOTO washlet and HARNN amenities, all done properly.
The bed and sheets had a soft cotton feel, and I slept comfortably on both nights. The room was quiet enough to recover properly after spending most of the day in the pool.
The bathroom has a freestanding bath, steady hot water and excellent pressure. TOTO washlets are fitted—useful in a market where bidets are not universal. Towels were substantial, and the hairdryer was good enough that bringing a Dyson from home would have been unnecessary.
HARNN's Juniper Berry & Cedarwood amenities were strong in both fragrance and texture. The only notable drawback was water draining a little slowly in the shower.

Main pool
The pool is central to the verdict.
I swam here by day, at blue hour and after dark, and made several photographs I value. Bright tiles, white façades, planting and lighting change the water through the day. The main stretch works for laps, while shallow zones and submerged loungers support slower use.
Opening hours are 07:00–20:00. The atmosphere shifts from a bright resort by day to a quieter, more romantic pool after sunset. Having also used the riverside pools at Capella and Four Seasons, I did not find The Salil's experience inferior.

Breakfast / NAVA
A complete breakfast—and a waffle I wanted to order twice.
I arrived at 10:30 on 9 August 2026 and waited about three minutes for a table in NAVA Sala. NAVA and the connected sala provide substantial seating, and the buffet remained well stocked until the 11:00 finish.
Fruit, hot dishes, breads, noodles, eggs and waffles cover the useful breakfast categories without inflating the buffet for variety alone.
Eggs and waffles are marked on an order card and arrive hot at the table, with no queue. The red tofu noodle soup took under three minutes. The waffle, skewers and breads were the strongest items, and everything I tried was well judged.
- Breakfast runs from 06:30 to 11:00. It was still fully stocked at 10:30, making this an unusually forgiving hotel for late sleepers.

Dinner / hotel restaurant
NAVA is worth making time for when you stay at The Salil.
Dinner moved from a non-alcoholic cocktail and snacks to a 300-gram Australian sirloin, crab rice and dessert. The crab rice was the strongest dish: lime, onion, sauce and crisp toppings did not overwhelm the crab or the texture of the grains.
The team used a picture menu to recommend a balanced order, and service remained precise through the final plate. Staff kept the pacing composed without making dinner feel formal. The crab rice, steak and overall flow supported the room rate without further embellishment.

Restaurants & bars / what I tried
There is enough choice to dine on property every evening.
At the River Club pop-up beside the pool, I ate three skewers with water because I do not drink alcohol. Pork was strongest, followed by beef and chicken. At THB 500, the food and atmosphere felt fairly priced.
I have revisited Taproom by the River at my own expense for its relaxed Chao Phraya setting. ELPASO now occupies a former restaurant space. THE S lists THB 3,000++ and THB 5,000++ dinner menus, while The Lobster has a dining room and live tanks. These are useful options for guests who want to stay on property.
NAVA Sala is NAVA's glass pavilion: breakfast by day, dessert after dark. BRIX's NAMA DONUT works as a post-swim snack, and Molto sells ice cream beside the pool. Blue Coconut is strongly coconut-forward; of the two flavours I tried, cheese was better balanced.

Shopping / Thai brands
KARMAKAMET and KanVela add substance beyond the room.
The Salil's KARMAKAMET shop opens onto the pool and also serves as a check-in space. Among the brand's Bangkok branches, this one has the clearest connection between scent and setting.
JOY blends peppermint, English lavender and geranium. The hand cream absorbs quickly with little residue; over several years of use, I found the scent lasted around six hours. The hand cream and car fragrance are the products I use most.
I first bought KARMAKAMET here, later reordered internationally and spent THB 3,800 on nine products during this visit. The red bags and gift wrapping were among the most carefully finished fragrance presentations I have handled. THE JOY membership also produced a real discount at checkout.
KanVela's Salted Caramel Toast chocolate led me to the second-floor shop. The 72% Klong Loi Origin and Salted Caramel Toast were the strongest bars I tried; Dubai Dubite Kunafa Pistachio was also well balanced. The welcome macaron provided another useful sample of the hotel's retail focus.
Galleria sells the relaxed hotel wear supplied in the room and Wolpie toys. The clothing was comfortable, with the pieces I considered priced around THB 1,200.

Classes / wellness
The THB 1,412 class delivered enough value.
The class selects a fragrance direction from birth month and element chart. Born in June, I was drawn to lemon, then chose three crystals for love, health and wishes and blended lemon, bergamot and grapefruit in set proportions.
I used the finished roller immediately and still keep it near my computer. The 45-minute class closes with gongs and a quiet moment of prayer. The posted THB 1,200++ becomes THB 1,412.40 after service charge and VAT, including the guided session and roller.
The HARNN room amenities also made the cave-like suites of HARNN Heritage Spa and Rabbit Moon Aquatherapy's nine stations and 50 jets relevant for future testing.

Location / shuttle boat
It is not beside a station, but it turns the river into transport.
The hotel is not within the immediate BTS station area. Asiatique is roughly 0.7–1.0 kilometres away and walkable for adults; Grab is more practical with children, in heat or in rain. The private pier and complimentary boats connect towards ICONSIAM and Sathorn.

Khao Tom Pla Kimpo is the strongest nearby meal.
The Pak Trok Chan branch of Khao Tom Pla Kimpo is about 660 metres from the hotel, or roughly nine minutes on foot. Its proximity strengthens an address otherwise removed from the BTS. Adults can walk; Grab is more practical with children, in heat or in rain.
I ordered mixed rice soup with grouper, prawn and squid, omitting the oysters, and paid about THB 300. The seafood remained distinct within the light rice soup, and a fish pancake was a strong match. The restaurant was featured by the Michelin Guide over several years.
Thai media describe a restaurant sustained across three generations for more than 70 years, with the family still selecting fish at a nearby market. The food, not age alone, explains its longevity.

Deluxe River View suits two guests; Family Room suits two adults and two children; One Bedroom Riverview better supports a longer stay. Club One Bedroom Riverview occupies higher floors. The hotel's room descriptions and benefits list give different conditions, so get confirmation in writing.
Capella Bangkok better suits a quieter, brand-led riverside stay; Dusit Thani Bangkok suits a BTS/MRT and Lumphini Park itinerary. The Salil is stronger when the pool, food, Thai-brand shops and on-site classes matter together.

Breakfast runs from 06:30 to 11:00. At 10:30 I waited about three minutes and found the buffet well stocked. Mark eggs and waffles on an order card and they are delivered freshly cooked to the table, so late sleepers need not miss breakfast.
When is the pool open, and is it suitable for children?
The pool is open from 07:00 to 20:00, with a central main pool and a separate children's area. Families can confirm zone depths and the lifeguard position at check-in.

Across repeated visits since opening, the rooms, pool, restaurants and shops have remained consistently satisfying. That consistency supports 9.3.
The rate is easiest to justify when the pool, NAVA, Thai-brand shops, a class and the boat are part of the stay rather than the room alone.

This two-night stay was hosted by The Salil Hotel Riverside Bangkok. It included the room and breakfast, dinner at NAVA on the first evening, selected experiences and in-room welcome gifts. The 9.3 score reflects both the strengths and shortcomings I experienced firsthand.
I had already used the shuttle boat and Taproom several times on earlier visits, and have bought KARMAKAMET products over a long period. This visit included a mixture of products I purchased myself and products supplied by the hotel.
